Last week Anna shot her short movie ‘Neblina’ in Otavalo, in the cemetery.
She asked me to play the leading role, and I agreed. It was an amazing experience to be part of the making of a movie, especially because the crew was such a nice one.
A friend of Anna’s came from LA to help with the camera… stuff, another came from a different part of Ecuador to help, Lorenzo helped with directing and we had a sound guy as well, also a friend.
On our team we also had three people from Otavalo, indigenous. Joshi was our production manager, sorting out food, props and anything else we needed. Lina assisted him and Yuri was the second actress in the movie. There was also another indigenous extra involved. Oh and a dog.
Anna has already won an international price for directing a short movie, and it was really cool for me to see her at work. She is extremely perfectionist and knows what she wants.
The story in the movie is about a girl who loses somebody very important in her life, while she is far away from home and completely alone. She loses herself in the process, until something else happens, which I will not give away : )
Acting is hard. And filming a movie is a lot of work. I kind of knew that beforehand, but as with many things, you don’t realise how much work it is until you have done it. We worked all day for three days, in the rain, in the burning sun, and were exhausted by dinner time. At first Anna and I thought we would have real problems with laughing and giggling on set, because that is what we generally do when we are together, since the age of about 11. But surprisingly we did quite well in that respect.
The movie was shot on film and will be edited and ready in May or so.
All the best!
Chiara
