Hello, Hello! Africa Calling, can you hear me?
The style trend focus is all about sub-Saharan Africa. The heart of the passion!
The streets are noisy, the air is dry and the heat is pure 40 degrees!
The palm trees are high in the sky and offering very little shade, but what do you feel all around?
Nothing but vitality, passion, colour and cultural stimulation.
This is Africa!
“African style” comes and goes into focus on the western Fashion Radar, but here in Accra, Ghana and Lome´, Togo, life evolves very slowly and fashion trends don’t really have a great deal of importance!
In Africa you need to create your own trends, it is all about style!
Say it with Flair! Let your look shine out!
“Put your best ‘foot’ forwards!” and Strut your funky stuff!
When you see “African style”, the striking thing about it is ‘the cool’ stand out by co-ordination, it is subtle the difference but it is clearly you either have it or you don’t.
Everyone has the opportunity to be the star, it is just about how you package the look.
What are the signs?
Always the same, accessories, the right support items are what brings you into the spotlight.
Simple shades. Go for the retro or the aviator.
The cut of the shirt. Keep it loose but not oversized. The muscle look is key.
An essentially ‘cool’ motorcycle. The ‘Sanya’, the ‘Yamaha’, and the ‘Leopard’ are a rare cut above the rest. Functional, simplicity and no nonsense, stainless steel, leather and with a beautiful chrome finish.
There is something in the rebellious freedom of a motorcycle without a helmet that inspires romantic ………stories and a look of effortless cool.
The last ingredients in this style code are beautiful patterns and exciting Colours!
Be brave and let your African Pride shout out loud!
In Lomé, Togo, it was the guys who were here to ‘represent’ with their ‘fine tailored’ looks.
Streaming past on their motorcycles, in wax cloth shirts and trousers, this is something everyday over here and is now so hot on the fashion Radars, that the European catwalks have adopted for this spring summer 11 collections.
Labels such as Etro, or Dutch Fabric brand Vlisko feature these African inspired collections as a statement in multicultural ethnicity.
Other designers such as Gucci, use its colourful combinations as directional influences.
Draped fabrics and a low cut are important style statements especially in creating the 70’s lounge look.

This design is spectacular! Between your blogs and your videos, I was almost motivated to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really loved what you have to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
It’s hard to find knowledgeable people on this topic, Africa is often misunderstood….you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks.
