Costa Rica

So last time I told you about Sandra and my trip to Costa Rica. It was really good for us both to leave La Cuenca and travel together again. We travelled via bus the whole way, I think around 50 or 60 hours…

In Costa Rica we hung out with a whole group of Sandra´s best friends from high school. Aise and her family hosted us for most of the time and we felt so welcome in her house. Because we were there over the weekend we were able to spend time with a lot of people. We went to a couple of parties there, one was a techno party – very interesting and including a huge sub-culture of San Jose’s young hipsters. The other was a completely different animal, a mountain party in the middle of nowhere with fire spiters – is that the right word? It took us almost two hours to get to that mountain party. We knew about it via a volunteer from Italy who used to work for Guaruma, Fabricia – SUPER INFORMA.

We also stayed at Nanne´s place for one night in order to go to the University of Peace the next day with her. This was a particularly interesting experience for me because I had big hopes for the place and I was a little disappointed. It is located on a hill with surrounding forests and rivers overlooking San Jose and students take private buses to campus from town. It is extremely idyllic, people say hello on the corridors and there are hammocks all around campus to chill out in. But the lecture I went to with Nanne was very bad. I am unable to sugarcoat it unfortunately.
I know this was only one of many lectures that go on at the University each day, and Nanne assured me that her other professors were much better, but I expected more. I was also surprised at how little information there was about projects, collaborations with NGOs etc. The notice boards were practically empty… In the end it was a very good experience for me because I had idealized the University for a long time.

So now we are back in Honduras and I moved back to the flat I lived in a couple of months ago with Jen from Canada. Her flat mate moved back to Canada and so the room was free again. I really enjoy living there. I have my own room, can concentrate on learning Spanish and have access to the internet!

This is a picture of Olli, Aise and me drawing in Aise’s house. It was Olli’s idea and we continued drawing in the restaurant we went to that day with the others. Aise’s mother is an artist and you can also see her art in the picture.

This picture is of Aise and Sandra. Aise was driving us around all of Sandra’s favorite parts of San Jose.

That´s it for now, hope you are all well.
