Finally I have been introduced to some nice bars in Quito. One of these is called El Pobre Diablo and I went to an exhibition of portraits there the other week. I mentioned this in one of my last posts, the artist exhibiting these paintings is a friend of my landlady, Marcello, and I met him at her birthday party.
I really enjoyed the exhibition. Marcello truly managed to capture the subjects’ expression and presence. One of my favourites was a portrait of his daughter, which he painted the night before the exhibition and decided to include at the last minute. When I met Marcello at El Pobre Diablo another time he was just talking to a lady he had portrayed in the exhibition, and she mentioned how the painting almost seemed like another version of herself in the world, because it felt so different from a normal photo. What I like about the portraits below of the woman and the man, is that they are faces you often come across in this part of the world.
It has been nice for me to see some circles closing in Quito, by which I mean that Marcello asked a band to play at his exhibition, I had already met one of its members at Lorenzo’s birthday party, who invited me to his concert at El Pobre Diablo on another day. Lorenzo being my child hood friend Anna’s boyfriend. Still following? No worries. It is just nice to start knowing people here and feeling like I am slowly but surely building up some circles of acquaintances and friends.
Take care everyone!
Chiara
Ce site est une merveille que je parcours depuis plusieurs heures sans me lasser.
You’re so cool! I dont suppose I’ve read anything like this before. So nice to find somebody with some original thoughts on this subject. Really thank you for starting this up. This website is something that is needed on the web, something with a little originality. Useful job for bringing something new to the internet!
